Abdukodir Khusanov Transfer News

Manchester City have signed Abdukodir Khusanov from French side Lens for £33.8m for five seasons and till 2029.

The 20-year-old centre-back with the mean average rate has been signed to join Pep Guardiola’s team for the second half of the season 2024-2025 and become the first Uzbek player in the Premier League.

Khusanov relocated to the Etihad Stadium after performing well at Lens, where he played 31 times after joining from Energetik-BGU Minsk in 2023.

His displays for Ligue 1 interested several premier clubs in Europe, though City acted fast to sign him as they seek to strengthen their defensive squad in the coming seasons.

Uzbekistan has had the opportunity to assess Khusanov on the international level, having played 18 games in the national team and demonstrated great defensive skills and unemotional play, which is rather unusual for a young player.

Abdukodir Khusanov has been bought to offer further depth to City’s defensive department gradually as a young centre-back to strengthen a strong backline that continues to compete on all fronts.

Here is what Khusanov said about his transfer to Manchester City.

I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club that I have enjoyed watching for a long time. This squad is full of the best players in the world, and I can’t wait to meet them and play alongside them.”

“Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches ever, and I am so excited to learn from him and improve my game even more. This is a very proud moment for me and my family to be joining a great club like Manchester City, and I’m more than ready for this challenge.

Finally, with his arrival, Manchester City receive another potential star in the team and strengthen their long-term plan in building up a solid defense line.
