Patrick Bamford is still searching for his next club after leaving Leeds United earlier this season, and reports this week suggest a potential switch to La Liga with Getafe.
The striker, now a free agent, parted ways with Leeds after slipping down the pecking order, and while he has been linked with a number of destinations, he has yet to seal his next move.
Celtic were previously strong contenders for his signature, but their pursuit ended when they opted to sign Kelechi Iheanacho instead.
Interest from MLS sides also surfaced, yet no deal was finalised. Now, Getafe have emerged as a potential destination, with speculation that talks were advancing quickly—only for their manager to cool expectations.
Getafe manager plays down Patrick Bamford rumours
Ahead of Getafe’s clash with Alaves on Wednesday, manager Jose Bordalás was asked directly about the Bamford links. His response was blunt: “It’s just a rumour,” he told TeleMadrid, making it clear that his focus remained firmly on the upcoming fixture rather than potential transfers.
The remarks cast doubt over how concrete the interest really is, but Bamford’s name being linked to a La Liga club continues to highlight his appeal as an experienced forward who could bring valuable top-flight experience abroad.
English players at Leeds and Getafe
If a deal were to materialise, Bamford would join a select group of players who have represented both Leeds United and Getafe.
Pablo Hernández, a cult hero at Elland Road, spent a brief spell with Getafe between 2007 and 2008 and is now caretaker manager at CD Castellón in Spain’s Segunda División.
Former Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla also made the move to Getafe after leaving Yorkshire in 2022, while midfielder Samuel Sáiz enjoyed a loan spell there in 2019 before continuing his career in Turkey with Eyüpspor.
What’s next for Bamford?
At 31, Bamford still has time to reignite his career, but choosing the right next step will be crucial.
A move to Spain would represent a bold fresh start in a league known for its technical style of play, but MLS remains an open option, and a return to the UK can’t be ruled out either.
For now, his future remains uncertain, but his name continues to generate plenty of transfer buzz.
