After moving from Liverpool in 2023, Naby Keita has somewhat transformed his football journey. After spending only a season at Werder Bremen where he was limited to the pitch by injuries, fitness, and disciplinary issues as well, Keita is expected to join Ferencváros on loan.
Naby Keita will always be remembered as a Liverpool player that was expected to bring a lot to the table but was often undone by his injury prone fitness issues.
Talented as he was, he never came to full fruition during his time with the Reds. He signed a free transfer to join Werder Bremen in June 2023 ending his journey with Liverpool.
Naby Keita at Werder Bremen
At Werder Bremen, this was a worsened Keita. He played in the league only five times and then he was benched in April 2024 when he did not want to board the team bus for the match, let alone to take to the pitch, as he was not in the starting line-up list. This led to disciplinary measures, and Keita was removed from first-team training.
Subsequently, Keita continued training as a Werder Bremen’s under-23 team player while waiting for the verdict. It was also alleged that talks to lure the player on a loan move to Turkish club Hatayspor plunged through due to an unfair disagreement with personal terms.
However, the player now has the opportunity to go to Ferencváros, a club in Hungary that plays in the Hungarian League.
This maneuvering is quite a departure in his career, for going from one of Europe’s most popular football playing leagues to a comparatively lower calibre league setting.
Information concerning the much anticipated loan deal is expected to be sealed early January, after he underwent a medical check up.
This development resonates with the fact that professional football careers are rather unpredictable. From Naby Keita, a star candidate for an outstanding and disciplined performer to a player in search of a new club in Hungary.
