Liverpool has released statements denying rumours that claim that Darwin Nunez is set to join AC Milan in January, with reports indicating that no club had contacted the Premier League club for the services of the striker.
Nevertheless, Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, continues to count on this footballer despite all the inconsistencies he demonstrated during the recent matches at Anfield.
Darwin Nunez signed for Liverpool in the summer transfer window of 2022 from Benfica as the club’s record signing at £85 million.
In total, he has since scored 37 goals and made 20 assists in his 119 performances in all competitions. However, the 25-year-old has been unable to repay the signing fee in full, especially this season, where he has featured in only 12 of the 23 matches scoring four goals and providing three assists.
Will Darwin Nunez Join AC Milan?
In the Premier League, his return has been loss-making, having fetched only two goals from 14 games so far.
Arne Slot has frequently opted for Luis DÃaz, Diogo Jota, or Cody Gakpo as his fantasy central striker, leading some to question Nunez’s future role at the club.
Italian media, especially Sky, have over the weekend reported that AC Milan is planning to loan the striker where there was a £41.5 million option to sign him permanently in the summer.
But according to Daily Mail, no talks have been conducted between the clubs.
Liverpool, who are competing in four competitions this season and challenging for honours throughout, are unlikely to allow Darwin Nunez to leave without ensuring they have a sufficient backup. Slot is said to hold high regard for squad depth as the team anticipates a tight fixture list for the rest of the year.
On the other hand, Milan, which is under new head coach Sergio Conceicao, needs to add some firepower upfront.
Currently, they occupy the eighth position, 14 points below the leader Atalanta and decided to strengthen their team to improve their position.
At the moment, Milan has Morata and Abraham, who have each netted five goals this season; Serbian Jovic, however, has not played due to injury.
Nevertheless, it was Milan curious, while Darwin Nunez, it seems, will be staying put at Anfield as Liverpool continues with their dominance in domestic and European football.
