Barcelona have been linked with a potential bid for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku. His future at Stamford Bridge has been under controversy this season.

The young Frenchman has rarely been featured in the Premier League matches since signing for the Blues, and his lack of playing time under Enzo Maresca has fuelled rumours of a possible move.

Christopher Nkunku has played in only two domestic games this campaign, scoring a mere two goals for Chelsea who are now four clear of Liverpool in the Premier League.

Despite that, he has been quite useful in cup competitions, where he has scored 10 goals in the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Conference League.

Although Christopher Nkunku boasted remarkable physical condition regarding these tournaments, he had been reportedly feeling increasingly restless for not being allowed first-team appearances in the Premier League.

Christopher Nkunku Is Currently Struggling At Chelsea

The west London-based sides’ official newspaper, Sport 45, reports that the forward is desperate to exit the club, and his agent, Pini Zahavi, has already begun offering the player to Spanish league, especially Barcelona.

Still, the deal can only be sealed next summer because of Barcelona’s stand on not making signings during the January transfer window.

Nkunku has struggled at Chelsea since joining the club from RB Leipzig for a club-record £53 million fee in the summer of 2023.

The French international had a slow first season in England due to injuries when coming under the management of Mauricio Pochettino. He made only 14 starts in all leagues during that season and managed only three goals.

However, under the Italian tactician Maresca, and this season, Nkunku has not only been available due to injuries but has also continued with his good performances.

But the Italian manager has set up Nicolas Jackson as the striker and Cole Palmer in the attacking midfielder position, which has limited Nkunku. Nevertheless, Maresca himself stressed in November that Nkunku would not be sold, even if the player is not having enough playing time.

Interest from Barcelona makes it appear that the Frenchman has a lifeline at the club, but any transfer is still possible in the future.

For now, the stakes are high for the Frenchman and he continues to fight to be given a more regular season in Maresca’s team despite rumours about his uncertain future.
