Given Arsenal’s issues on the injury front, specifically the injury of Bukayo Saka for the rest of the season, the Gunners have been urged to go big and sign West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus in January.
Saka was recently operated on for a hamstring injury he suffered during Arsenal’s 5-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace.
The winger, having scored nine goals and created 13 chances for others to score in 24 league matches this season, will be out of action for at least two months. His absence has shown manager Mikel Arteta the importance of an immediate backup.
During Arsenal’s recent 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town, Arteta decided to use Martinelli as a right winger, the club has been linked with a rich list of targets.
Though some sources claim that Arteta may urge the Emirate’s hierarchy to sign another top attacker capable of stepping into Saka’s shoes whenever the England prodigy is benched.
Can Arsenal Sign Mohammed Kudus?
There has been strong feeling linked to Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan, but as for Adrian Clarke, the former Arsenal midfielder, he believes Mohammed Kudus is perfect for it.
Since joining the Hammers, the playmaker has been impressive and is also said to be on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester City.
City is said to be in the process of assembling €80 million to land Kudus as part of Pep Guardiola’s restructuring. However, Arsenal has been cited as favourites in the race to sign the 24-year-old.
Kudus would no doubt be attracted to a club in the Champions League, like Arsenal or City, which would give him the chance to play in the tournament.
Saka’s injury put Arsenal on the spot, and Kudus, with his Premier League experience and versatility, might just be the type of player the Gunners will look to sign to continue a title charge and maintain attacking strength.
The period early in the January window is expected to define Arsenal’s chances in this season.
