Manchester United are preparing to meet with Carlos Baleba just months after failing in their attempt to sign the Brighton midfielder last summer.

The 21-year-old Cameroon international, who joined from Lille in 2023, has become a key figure at the Amex Stadium, stepping up to replace Moises Caicedo after his move to Chelsea.

United’s interest dates back to the summer when they made enquiries about Baleba’s availability. Brighton rejected those advances, making it clear that any sale would require a bid in excess of £100 million.

However, with United expected to have greater financial freedom in the next two transfer windows, a renewed approach appears increasingly likely.

After a mixed start to the season, Baleba’s form is beginning to pick up again. Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler recently urged the midfielder to shoulder more responsibility and focus amid ongoing transfer rumours.

Baleba responded with an outstanding performance in the 2–0 victory over Newcastle, later writing on Instagram: “Good team win and I’m feeling like myself again. #areyouabaleba.”

The post caught attention when United duo Leny Yoro and Andre Onana both liked it, fuelling speculation that the Red Devils’ interest remains strong.

Baleba will now have a chance to showcase his talent directly against Erik ten Hag’s side when Brighton face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday — a match that could serve as a live audition.

Brighton remain firm in their stance that Baleba will not leave mid-season, but his future beyond the summer remains uncertain.
