Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Saint-Etienne striker Djylian N’Guessan, joining arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in tracking the young French forward.

According to Caught Offside, the 17-year-old has caught the attention of the Gunners’ scouts following his involvement with France’s Under-20 team.

Arsenal strengthened their attack in the summer with the additions of Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, and Noni Madueke. They also secured Shamrock Rovers’ teenager Victor Ozhianvuna as part of their long-term planning.

N’Guessan now appears to be the next name under consideration, although a deal seems unlikely in the short term.

Despite the growing buzz, the links appear to be agent-driven rather than based on immediate club interest. N’Guessan made eight appearances for Saint-Etienne last season without scoring and has yet to feature since their relegation to Ligue 2.

While he impressed with a 93% passing accuracy at the Under-20 World Cup, his lack of goals and limited senior impact suggest he remains a developing prospect.

Given he only turned 17 in August, N’Guessan cannot move to England until he turns 18. That rules out a January transfer, though a late summer move could be possible if he establishes himself at Saint-Etienne.

Arsenal’s good relationship with the French club — following William Saliba’s transfer in 2019 — could work in their favor should his progress accelerate.

For now, though, both Arsenal and Tottenham appear to be monitoring rather than moving. N’Guessan’s focus must remain on proving himself in Ligue 2 before earning a Premier League breakthrough.
