Barcelona are already planning for life after Robert Lewandowski, and according to reports in Spain and Italy, Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović has emerged as a leading candidate.
Dušan Vlahović situation at Juventus
The Serbian forward has enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign, contributing five goals in just four appearances, including a brace and an assist in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Borussia Dortmund.
Despite his form, Vlahović has slipped behind new signing Jonathan David in the pecking order at Juventus, casting fresh doubt over his long-term future in Turin.
Contract talks between the player and Juve have stalled, with his current deal set to expire next summer. That means Vlahović will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January if no agreement is reached.
Barcelona preparing for Lewandowski’s exit
With Lewandowski expected to depart Camp Nou at the end of the season, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is reportedly keen on moving for Vlahović on a free transfer.
The Serbian’s age, pedigree, and availability make him an attractive option as the Catalan giants look to reshape their attack.
A free-agent deal would also be in line with Barcelona’s financial strategy, given their ongoing economic struggles.
Landing a striker of Vlahović’s calibre without a transfer fee could prove to be a masterstroke, as they seek to compete with Real Madrid both domestically and in Europe.
The race for his signature
Barcelona are unlikely to be alone in the hunt, however. Given his quality and contract status, several European heavyweights are expected to monitor Vlahović’s situation closely.
Clubs from the Premier League, in particular, may test Juventus’ resolve before January with cut-price offers to avoid losing him for nothing.
For now, though, Barcelona appear ready to position themselves as one of the front-runners to secure his signature, potentially ushering in a new era up front at Camp Nou.
