Erling Haaland scored twice to fire Manchester City to a dominant 3-0 derby win over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the first half before Haaland struck twice after the break to seal all three points for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The defeat leaves United with just four points from their opening four Premier League fixtures, a start that sees Rúben Amorim’s men languishing in 14th place.
The Portuguese coach will be desperate for a turnaround in form, but off the pitch, the club are already drawing up ambitious transfer plans.
United weighing free transfer swoop for Dayot Upamecano
According to reports from Fichajes via GiveMeSport, Manchester United are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano, whose contract with the Bundesliga champions expires at the end of the season.
Talks over an extension have stalled due to the Frenchman’s wage demands, with Bayern reluctant to break their salary structure.
Upamecano currently earns around £266,000 per week, raising questions over whether United would be willing to match that figure.
Since joining Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021, the 25-year-old has made over 150 appearances and won multiple Bundesliga titles. He featured 20 times in last season’s successful league campaign but now faces an uncertain future in Bavaria.
United already have Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt competing for centre-back roles, yet Amorim may view the addition of Upamecano as a chance to bolster both depth and quality in his defensive options ahead of next season.
