Marcus Rashford

Barcelona have identified their need for an attacker as the key focus for the January transfer window, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford being their preferred target. However, several financial hurdles must be addressed before the deal can proceed.

The Barcelona-based Sport newspaper said on Sunday that Barcelona has agreed on a deal with Rashford for a loan deal that would see the England international move to the Camp Nou until the end of the season.

The English forward is said to be more than willing to join Barcelona and is willing to make his transfer request to the last few hours of the transfer window period. Still, Borussia Dortmund shows interest in Rashford’s transfer; however, he still wants to move to Barcelona.

However, the major issue which still persists is the financial situation in Barcelona. Despite returning to La Liga’s more flexible ‘1:1 rule,’ the club still needs to make space for Rashford’s wages because they sum up to about €9 million for the rest of the season.

This can be reduced if a deal with Manchester United is reached; however, it can only happen if Barcelona relieves itself of current assets.

The club had been relying on Aston Villa’s interest in Oscar Mingueza as a source of revenue in fees with new prospects triggering about €10 million for Barcelona.

Barcelona Is Really Keen One Marcus Rashford

However, it seems this plan has been canned by Villa because the team signed Andres Garcia from Levante recently.

Another potential solution may belong to Eric Garcia, who is being reported to be interesting to Girona. The Catalan side has been offered €7 million plus €3 million in add-ons, The Sun added, meaning that with the freed wages of Garcia, the Spanish team would have the financial leverage to sign Rashford.

On the flip side, Ansu Fati’s exit is still uncertain even as he is reluctant to move, and clubs’ valuation of him is also a small issue.

If Barcelona manage to secure Rashford, he will compete with the likes of Raphinha and Dani Olmo for a spot in the starting lineup. Given the team’s current attacking depth, the England international could initially be utilized as an impact substitute.

Time is critical, and if Barcelona cannot quickly raise the necessary funds, Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Rashford may increase, as the German club appears to be a more financially stable and viable option at this point.
